Background. Physical activity is a way to help people acquire skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes necessary for optimal growth, gaining general health, and experiencing joyful moments. This study aimed to investigate the impact of General Physical Education Classes (GPEC) on personality traits and mental well-being of female students at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Methods. This quasi-experimental study had a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The population included all female medical students at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS). The experimental group included the students who had taken the one-credit General Physical Education (GPE) course, while the control group had not taken the GPE course. The students completed the Berne Reuters Personality Questionnaire and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire in two stages (at the beginning and end of the semester). The experimental group attended weekly GPE sessions for 12 weeks, each lasting 90 minutes from 8.30 AM to 10 AM. SPSS version-21 software was used for statistical analysis and analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA). Results. The results showed that GPEC significantly affected all six personality traits and the students' mental well-being (happiness) (P=0.001). In this regard, GPEC increased self-confidence, sociability, and excellence, while decreasing nervousness, introversion and self-being of the participants. Additionally, It increased the experimental group’s mental well-being (p<0.05). Conclusion. Physical activity can promote personality traits and students' mental well-being.
