Abstract
Background and objectives : Anemia is one of the most common and important diseases which makes major problems for students’ health in present and future. By regarding the young population of our country and high number of students, this study aimed to survey students’ anemia status in primary level students of Paveh city schools.
Material and Methods : This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study that its participated students were selected and assessed randomly. After a primary screening, the suspected students were referred to physicians for more assessment and laboratory tests. Obtained results were reported as frequency (percentages) based on gender and educational degree categories. Then, anemia status difference between these categories was assessed using T-test and ANOVA. SPSS16 was used for analysis.
Results : In this study, 37.8 % of female students and 24.1 % of male students (totally 31.1 %) have had anemia. Also, the anemia in girls was higher than boys and in higher educational levels, it was greater than lower levels significantly (P<0.05).
Conclusion : The study results showed that the status of anemia in current study was very high and requires managerial interventions.
