Developing a Model for Physical Education Teachers’ Professional Performance Health Based on Talent Management and Emotional Intelligence

Abstract

Background and Objectives
Talent management and emotional intelligence are accounted as a system to recognize, educate, improve and maintain talented people, with the goal of organization empowerment and organizational goal achievement. The present article aimed at developing a model of professional performance health improvement among physical education teachers in East-Azerbaijan province based on their talent management and emotional intelligence.

Material and Methods

The present research study’s design was applied in terms of purpose, and correlational in terms of research method. The statistical population included all physical educational teachers in East- Azerbaijan province (N=1312) who were working during 2020-2021 school year. The final sample size consisted of 298 teachers who were randomly selected through Krejcie and Morgan table. The research tools utilized in the present study were Ahmadi, et al’s talent management questionnaire, Bradbery and Griooz`s emotional intelligence questionnaire, and professional performance questionnaire developed by Byern, et al. and Konovy. The data were analyzed both descriptively and inferentially through SPSS and Amos softwares. The indices of central tendency and dispersion were used at descriptive level, and multiple regression and structural equations were used at inferential level.

Results

Descriptive analysis of the data showed that the mean and standard deviation of professional performance, talent management and emotional intelligence were 3.84 ± 0.64, 3.77 ± 0.58, 3.83 ± 0.69, respectively. The results of inferential statistics also revealed that talent management (p<0.001, t= 7.023) and emotional intelligence (p<0.001, t= 8.316) both had a meaningful positive effect on East- Azerbaijan physical education teachers` professional performance health. Moreover, talent management with the mediating role of emotional intelligence had also a meaningful positive effect on East- Azerbaijan physical education teachers` professional performance health, too (p<0.001, t= 13.48).

Conclusion

Based on the fact that teachers` professional performance health is significantly influenced by their talent management, it can be concluded that identifying the status of teachers` talents upon their recruitment and providing training to improve their emotional intelligence can facilitate the process of teacher selection while boosting their professional performance health.



Extended Abstract
Background and Objectives

Improving teachers` performance and ultimately the school health is one of the major challenges of the schools. Also, teachers` talent preservation and development is counted as another concern in school environment. The concept of talent management has an amazing influence on teachers` performance process. Talent is a key element of people`s success in their careers and workplace. People would not succeed in any field without having specific talents. Therefore, it is helpful for an organization discover individuals` talent types and choose talented people to brighten the future of the organization through improving the performance of its staff. It is essential for the teachers, who are responsible for educating students, to take advantages of talent in classroom environment. The emotional intelligence is another component related to teachers` performance. It has different social, cognitive and biological benefits. People with high emotional intelligence levels, have lower stress hormones and other emotional symptoms. Each individual’s success during studies at school and university later on, is related to their intelligence, emotional and social skills of emotional intelligence. Hence, teachers will be able to improve their professional performance by enhancing this particular skill. In fact, talent management and emotional intelligence are accounted as a system to recognize, educate, improve and maintain talented people, with the aim of organization empowerment and goal achievement. Conclusion

Teachers are the most important factor in determining educational quality for the students. In view of the importance of teachers’ career and its effect on students’ progress, it is essential to recognize and eliminate the effective factors reducing their performance. Hence, it is recommended to employ talented people to increase organization productivity and effectiveness. Because talent management is the application of various integrated activities through which organizations supply their employees (recruitment, maintenance, motivation and development) in the present and future career era, the organizations naturally endeavor to maintain the flow of talent, focusing on talented people as the main resources of the organization. Applying an effective talent management strategy provides the opportunity for successful talent obtaining and maintenance, which underlies the future success of the organization as these employees might ultimately be selected and prepared for consequential positions in the future. In addition, emotional intelligence, as an innovative psychological element, influences teachers’ professional characteristics and is counted an essential predictive factor in many professional domains. Therefore, it can be concluded that higher level of emotional intelligence provides higher level of professional performance too. Emotional intelligence elements like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and communication management are the abilities that empower people’s attitude toward their duties. The development of emotions, feelings and reality perception in the organization could provide for an appropriate situation for a correct professional performance. In other words, each individual will reach a distinct self-confidence level in stressful situations. These abilities provides positive experiences in professional performance and enhances peoples’ self- confidence to a promoted professional performance. Based on the fact that teachers’ professional performance health is primarily influenced by their talent management, it is concluded that teachers’ selection process and professional performance health may be empowered through identifying their talent status during recruitment, and also their emotional intelligence training and improvement in their years of service.

Practical Implications of Research

The present research has an essential contribution in the implication and implementation of the role of talent management and emotional intelligence variables on sport teachers` professional performance. Teachers are the most important factor in determining educational quality of students. In addition, the governments are responsible to investigate that teachers, are performing at their desired level of performance. Teachers’ satisfaction, career and educational motivation, are considered as the most important elements for teachers, students, schools, societies success and eventually for the country’s development. The present study identifies the related and improving factors on teachers` professional performance according to the importance of teachers` career and its influence on today's children and future makers` progress.
